An annual list of the world's best 50 restaurants has been revealed, and for the first time in its history one city dominated the top two spots.
Voted as number one was Copenhagen's Noma restaurant and at number two the city's Geranium restaurants.
This is Noma's fifth win in the awards since its arrival in 2003, it also has three Michelin stars. Chef René Redzepi prides himself on the restaurants entirely reinvented Nordic cuisine.
The restaurant wrote on Twitter: "What an incredible moment for us all in Copenhagen. We are so happy and proud of our team being voted the no. 1 restaurant in the world."
Geranium which was voted second best restaurant in the world, owned by Rasmus Kofoed who was the first chef in Denmark to earn three Michelin stars given to the restaurant in 2016.
They wrote on Instagram following the announcement: "What a journey the last 2 years have been for our industry. To be voted #2 in the world for something we love doing is a really great feeling. Thank you to our guests, our team, our families & our suppliers for helping us live our dream every day!"
The annual event didn't occur last year due to the pandemic but was allowed to go ahead in Belgium this year naming the top 50 restaurants in the world.
The awards are organised by UK based William Reed Media and work on a voting system, there are 1040 worldwide voters who are all restaurant industry experts, and each select 10 restaurants - each voter must have visited the restaurant at least once in the last 18 months.
